Short Description

Online petitions are a possibility to start and take part in petitions to bring important issues to the public and into politics. On special platforms for this purpose everybody can be part of digital participation opportunities. For example there is: “Open Petition – https://www.openpetition.de”, one of many petition platforms. Petitions that get a certain amount of signatures will then be forwarded to politicians to be adressed in parliament.

Results

There are many different petitions that were successul. One example I want to share was when I participated in this online petition: https://www.openpetition.de/petition/online/rettet-das-metropol – goal was to preserve the Metropol movie theater in Stuttgart (Germany) which the wanted to turn into a bouldering hall. With the petition and demonstrations in front of the cinema the topic was heard and in the end the cinema was renovated and preserved by a new tenant who took over the cinema.

Goals

The goal is that topics that are important to people get heard and are discussed by politics. People can show what topics they find are not represented enough or need to be made public. It aims to raise awareness and apply pressure on decision-makers or organizations to take action on a particular issue. By signing, you can help a certaon topic to be more present.
