Short Description

A participatory, artistic activity where anyone – especially youth – is invited to imagine and then draw or create visual representations of their “ideal democratic city” using paper, pens, recycled materials, or digital tools. Whatever you feel more comfortable with. It’s not about artistic skills — instead, it’s about civic imagination and expression.

Results

Such an activity sparks reflection and dialogue. Moreover, it allows participants to imagine and express their role in a democratic society by engaging with its smaller, concentrated version — the city.

Goals

The main objective of this activity is to engage citizens in imagining the values, spaces, and ideas that should define a democratic and inclusive city. On the other hand, participants have to actually represent it in any manner they wish. This helps participants reflect upon democratic principles like participation, accessibility, inclusion, and sustainability whilst trying to put them into a concrete project that reflects their expectations.

What is needed

Provided that each participant has some drawing material, we can consider this a cost-free activity involving little to no expenses.
If we are talking about an in-person meeting, then an appropriate working place will be needed, which might entail some work and costs. Otherwise, an online, less-expensive solution might accommodate a larger number of people from different countries thus enlarging the scope of the activity.
