Short Description

The website presents personal stories of Ukrainians who came to Germany as a result of war and flight. Created as part of the ‘Together in Ulm’ initiative by ILEU e.V., the platform offers insights into individual experiences as well as the history, culture and traditions of Ukraine. This is complemented by an interactive map that shows the storytellers’ places of origin, as well as the radio group ‘Voices of Ukraine’, which broadcasts monthly on Radio free FM. The website invites people to share their own stories and promote intercultural dialogue.

Goals

Behind the news, figures and statistics are people with personal stories. The project aims to give these individual fates a voice. Refugees from Ukraine talk about their lives, their homeland, the war and their flight from their own perspective. The aim is to provide insights, break down prejudices and promote an open dialogue – for more understanding, empathy and human closeness in dealing with refugees.

What is needed

The website [buchdergeschichtenukraine.wordpress.com] enables refugees from Ukraine to share personal stories and information about Ukraine. It shows the individual fates and gives those affected space to report on war, flight, home and new beginnings – in their own words. The project is complemented by an interactive map of origin and the radio series ‘Voices of Ukraine’ on Radio free FM. The aim is to create understanding, facilitate encounters and build bridges between people and cultures. The platform invites people to read, listen and participate. Interested parties can send in their own texts and contribute to the design of the website.
